Mpower FAQs

Updated: Jun 18, 2020

My child doesn’t have a diagnosis. Can OT still help?

Yes! OTs have a role in any kind of functional difficulty. Our OTs consult with parents and/or teachers and assess children to determine how best to help. This may involve providing direct therapy, modifying the activity or modifying the environment. In healthcare, OTs are known as the “jack of all trades”. If you have any questions about if/how we could help, please reach out via email or by phone.

How do I connect with an occupational therapist?

We are happy to discuss your needs and work with you to develop an action plan. To begin this process, please send us an email at info@mpowerot.com or call us at (778)982-0003. Following an initial consultation, we will book an assessment which will involve a structured interview with parents/guardian, standardized assessments with the child and purposeful play/observation. From here, we will make recommendations. We are happy to provide reports for your child’s medical and/or school file depending on your needs.

Where does therapy take place? What does it look like?

We offer home and community based therapy that works with your schedule. A typical session is one hour long (45 minutes of treatment, 15 minutes of discussion/consultation) with billing for travel time. We do our best to arrange multiple appointments in the same area to save you travel time costs.

What type of funding do you accept?

We are pleased to offer direct billing to the At Home Program and the Autism Funding Unit. We also offer private billing. You may not know that occupational therapy is also covered under many extended health care plans.

Can you work with my child’s teachers and education assistants?

Absolutely. We are happy to provide training in techniques and recommendations for increased participation and engagement at school. All school districts have their own guidelines regarding the level of involvement external therapies can have at school. We will work with your child’s team to determine this and create an action plan.
